Story
the
Behind the Lens
It’s hard to believe, but I’ve now spent more than half of my life behind a camera in some capacity. I started out photographing family and friends as a weekend hobby, but it didn’t take long before I developed a passion for working with people and helping them tell their stories.
After high school, I studied journalism at the University of Kentucky where I worked as a staff photographer and Photo Editor for the KentuckyKernel. During that time, I also discovered a love for sports photography, covering everything from NCAA Tournament games and the Kentucky Derby to countless University of Kentucky athletic events.
After graduating, I spent four years working as a real estate photographer in Lexington before moving back to Louisville in 2022 and pursuing a career in teaching.
Photography has opened doors I never could have imagined and I’ve felt so much pride that so many people have trusted me to capture their biggest moments — engagements, wedding days, or the excitement of their growing families.
Life is filled with meaningful moments that deserve to be celebrated and I’m grateful that I get to help people remember them.

That answer depends a bit on how you define a photographer. I first picked up a camera around 12 or 13 to photograph my younger sister at horse shows. I started doing portraits my sophomore year of high school, and really found my passion for it during my time at the University of Kentucky.
All that to say, I’ve had a camera in my hands in some capacity for well over a decade, and I’ve been pursuing photography professionally for about nine years.

Because of my background in journalism, the easiest way for me to describe my style is naturalistic. While post-processing is still an important part of my work, I always try to keep my images as true to what I saw with my eye as possible — both in the way I photograph and the way I edit.
Photography trends are constantly changing, especially when it comes to editing styles, but my goal has always been to create images that feel timeless, natural, and authentic. Years from now, I want your album to look just as meaningful as the day we created it!

As you may have noticed by now, one of my favorite things about photography is the opportunity to help people tell their stories. Photography is a medium that allows people to capture and remember a moment in time for the rest of their lives.
Every person I get to work with, regardless of where they are in life, has a story worth telling. I’m grateful that I get to help capture a small part of it.

As cliché as it may sound, I genuinely love getting to photograph all kinds of people and moments. Sure, there are certain sessions I get especially excited to see on my calendar (I’ll always have a soft spot for engagement shoots), but at the end of the day, my favorite part of the job is simply getting to work with people.
No matter the kind of session you’re looking for, know that I’m just as excited to be there as you are!
“Hunter was so easy to work with and made us feel so comfortable! He gave us plenty of posing ideas and did a great job of making things more fluid and natural. I would definitely recommend him for any of your photography needs!”
